It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. The keeper of Mayfly Cave, otherwise known as the Mayfly Cave Ferret, was drawn immediately to Ferreth's violet egg, resting in the entrance of the Dragon Cave. She stole the egg, with the prowess of the ferret she is, and took it to Mayfly Cave, placing it in the warm sand-pit that lay inside. Soon after, the Mayfly Ferret acquired an orange egg and placed it alongside the purple egg. The dragons would never know their caretaker, but both heard the almost constant chanting of a name, the ferret pressed against the egg. Ferreth. Ferreth, she would call to the purple egg, and so she would know herself as Ferreth upon hatching. She hatched right before the orange egg, whose hatchlings name was Solath, and they relied on each other and the Mayfly Ferret, who brought them food.<br/>Ferreth is now a motherly figure, strong-willed and outgoing and the matriarch leader of the cave.
