Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Nightfall Echo is the eldest of the first multiple-egg litter of Moon Crystal and Pakie the Second. The litter consisted of three dragons--one, which was abandoned, did not survive, but Nightfall's twin sister, Newfallen Echo, was found before she could be claimed by anyone else. Now, Nightfall is full-grown, with his twin as his best friend. He looks nothing like his father or elder sister, Midnight Scepter, but takes after him in species--he is the alternate look of a black dragon. Though he appears quite sinister, he is actually quite just and kind. He is very caring and sympathetic to the other dragons, and is a real pleasure to have in the cave. His mate is a childhood friend of his, Ruby Gateway, and they have one egg currently. His sister also mated with another of their childhood friends, a seasonal dragon named Arising Rage.
