Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

WinterPygmy is a Pygmy Dragon hatchling who loves the snow. He likes to make snow dens, so he can hide from adults. He often tosses balls of snow at other dragons. This prompts other hatchlings to join in the fun, but few adults really notice because the snow balls are so small and the adults are so big. Only the smaller breeds, like Mints and other Pygmies really pay attention to a snowball that hits them, but WinterPygmy always gets in trouble if he pelts any small adult dragon.
