Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

When she was a mere hatchling her parents died by the hand of a rabid black dragon. Not harmed herself, she became an orphan, only to be captured later by a human slave group. Blood's Heart was kept as a beast of burden for many years by human slavers. One lucky day one of the slaver's fell asleep while watching her. She quickly made her escape, even though she could not fly she leaped off the mountain in which she was enslaved, a cart of wheat flying behind her. Crashing on her side at the bottom of the mountain she has forever since that point had a long jagged scar across her side. So then at that point she named herself Blood's Heart.
