Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Withdrawn and reclusive, why this dragon of all dragons decided to take Midriel--THE Midriel, the crazy clumsy constantly-setting-things-on-fire rosebud dragon--as his mate is anyone's guess. Yet the affection between them is both extremely sweet and extremely obvious; he is always by her side, calm but protective, ready to intervene should she put herself in too much danger. When asked about how the two came to be a couple, Midriel brightens up and explains he saved her when she was very very VERY lost in a very misty far away sort of place. Unfortunately this is about all she recalls of the experience ("it was very misty, like I said, so it was hard to see much!"), and Chase isn't about to give answers--to anyone but his betrothed and his family members, at any rate.
