And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Tiny Autumn Seasons is of questionable pedigree, according to many of his fellow dragons.  This might explain why he remains a hatchling.  Thankfully, Tiny Autumn Seasons is not alone in his plight.  He is, however, unique in that he is the only one of the questionable hatchlings whose family also lives in the cave.  Despite their efforts to include him in their activities, he loathes their existence, because he is the only one who has not matured.  He much prefers the company of the other hatchlings, though he often feels like an outsider with them because of the close proximity of his family.
