Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. You find it odd that the hatchling doesn’t move at all during the day, but at night its colors change and it is full of energy.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Komk is a gargoyle on the east side of Crier Mansion, which doubles as a cap on Hell's Gate Crier.  With his fellow gargoyles, Komk guards the Hell's Gate and the mansion itself at night.  His post on the east side means that his night starts earlier and ends earlier than some other Crier gargoyles, and he has to scramble to get back to his post before the sun rises and he freezes in place.  He is one of the few gargoyles who has never considered freezing in some other position than the one he was carved in--the thought has never crossed his mind.

Komk has the distinction of being the last of the eastern gargoyles to reveal himself to Baroness Widow Crier when she inherited the Mansion.  She knew what he must be, given that so many other gargoyles had revealed themselves already, but Komk is a little slow on the uptake and did not realize this for over a year.
