Albino Dragons are so named because their translucent, scale-less skin lacks all pigment. Instead, to help protect their bodies from the sun, they are coated in an oily secretion that blocks the sun’s harmful rays. The call of an albino dragon is similar to a barn owl--a shriek instead of a roar.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

In the deepest depths of a cave carved deep into a mountain and surrounded by a dense, sunless jungle lives Baine; a nearly blind Albino dragon whose existence is unacknowledged by most of the clan. He uses his acute hearing and sense of direction to navigate the tunnels he calls home, and prefers to stick to the stagnant, murky waters that created them. Growing in his caves are huge, pulsing crystals of a size and purity that those above the ground can only dream of. They are a local legend among both dragons and humans, with the tales normally involving their supposed mystic healing properties. Baine doesn't recognize their value in this way, however, as he can only recognize the light that they produce and is drawn to it like a moth to flame. He guards his crystals with a passion; all those who come to his cave in search of them will soon find themselves lying back at the cave's entrance with a throbbing head and little memory of what happened inside.
