This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Perhaps not. It seems to be active during the night.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Aaranea is Leukona's first "daughter". Leukona is protective of her, although still loving, and their bond is similar to that of a mother and her child. Aaranea herself is a bit playful, possibly due to her originally being a Speckle-Throated Dragon, although maybe not. She'll often drag her mother outside during the nighttime to play a new game she's thought up, usually involving pebbles, although sometimes it's just to show Leukona something new she found, like how she can use grass as a whistle.
