Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Sugar was found as an injured hatchling by a volcano, and no other dragons seemed to care. But when a woman found Sugar injured, she tried to get help, or get somebody else to take care of the hatchling. Many people thought that the hatchling wouldn't survive, and that the woman should just leave it. The woman didn't listen, and chose to give it to the first person she found at the volcano, a teenage dragon breeder. The teen was looking at their scroll, when the woman placed the hatchling at the their feet. The breeder looked down when they heard the squealing coming from the dragon, it was by itself, and nobody was paying attention to the hatchling, so the teen breeder decided to keep and heal the hatchling. And it soon grew up to be one of the fastest and toughest dragons. The dragon now follows the breeder anywhere, and protects them from harm. The dragon is still kind of cuddly even though she has hard scales. The breeder named the dragon Sugar because of how nice she is.
