Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Even before he was born Raidou was attacked by the vampire dragon Mamon, his poisonous bite transforming the defenceless egg into a creature of death and darkness. When his parents discovered what had happened to their child, they attempted to throw him from the cave and only the interruption of the Cave Mistress saved Raidou from abandonment.

The Cave Mistress raised Raidou herself, teaching him all she could and training him to be a strong fighter. Raidou is now one of the most powerful dragons in the clan, although he has never engaged in combat with any of the others. Instead he uses his strength to purge the territory and surrounding lands of the terrible demons that plague it and free the humans suffering from their curses. However, despite all that he has done for others, Raidou only has two true friends. Apart from the Cave Mistress that raised him, only the clan leader Whyte will converse with him and the two of them have become close friends.
