Hellfire Wyverns are so named for their foul tempers and fiery visages. Their social structure places all females above all males, due to superior physical characteristics and violent dispositions. Forced subservience of the males causes them to become vicious, petty, antisocial, and passive-aggressive compared to the aggressive and social females. However, orphaned hatchlings raised by foster parents of another species can develop surprisingly even tempers and mellow dispositions, proving that their defining unpleasant nature is, in fact, a learned behavior.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Cracks-of-Doom, contrary to the typical vicious and nasty behavior of most male Hellfire Wyverns, is a kind, compassionate, playful dragon who finds it easy to have fun with other dragons, probably due to the positive environment in which he was raised. Even though his name sounds ominous, it is simply referring to his bright, vivid coloration which resembles the cracks in cooling lava. He has a naturally submissive temperament and therefore doesn't really mind submitting to the higher-ranked females; if he gets annoyed, he will go find another dragon to play with. He enjoys hunting and play-fighting with other dragons, although he does not like working with dragons who can control the weather and summon storms, because he finds their talents unnecessary and thinks that they are arrogant. Sometimes he can act antisocial towards other Hellfire Wyverns, although this is probably because other Hellfires are usually mean to him.
