Failed attempts to experiment with magic often result in transforming dragons into these hellish creatures. They are extremely dangerous, and will mindlessly kill any living creature without regard to friend or foe.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Darkmaw is an Undead dragon, formerly a female Black. It was killed through an unknown cause, however due to obeying Aszalia'xai's influence without hesitation, it is thought the male Vampire did the deplorable deed. Darkmaw wanders the territory at night, and disappears into Aszalia'xai's cave during the day. Other dragons find it disgusting, despite having known Darkmaw when it was alive, and this combined with the very likely possibility that Darkmaw is the Vampire's spy makes the rest of the dragons avoid it. In fact, only the Vampires, Black Marrows, and Cavern Lurkers approach Darkmaw without fear or repulsion. It is said that Aszalia'xai has threatened his former owner, Kiryu, with being eaten by Darkmaw if the human does not submit to the Vampire.
