Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Murasaki Marine's eggmates are Miyuki, Amenbo, and Yume. Murasaki didn't care much for her cavemates company while growing up. The only dragon she truly admired was the CaveLord, Reikoku. A while after she reached adulthood she started courting him. Over the egg year their courtship lasted Murasaki's view of life changed. At Reikoku's side she started to enjoy being around the other dragons sometimes even conversing. Her biggest joy she discovered was the want of being a mother. Watching Miyuki with her daughter had a huge affect on her and she was very gungho for a child when she became mates with Reikoku. Sadly their union didn't result in a child. It took weeks until Murasaki was able to get over her depression. She hopes that the next egg years Reikoku and she will have a many children.
