Valentine eggs are only seen once a year. Adults’ mating seasons are very short, usually spanning a few weeks in the mid-to-late winter. These dragons were once reputed to be omens of good luck in love.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Valentine was hatched days after Valentine's Day, earning her name. She was found among a stack of other Valentine eggs, at the very bottom. By accident, she had been cracked prematurely, making her left wing a bit smaller and droopier than the right. Raised by a bunch of curious dragons, Valentine picked up various traits, like flicking her tail in somebody's face when offended or caring for the various hatchlings and eggs that come and go each month. Valentine cares a lot for the hatchlings, and is usually sad to see them go, like a regular mother.
