Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

For the longest time, Change is Tough lived a quiet life in the forest with no name to speak of, her solitude interrupted only by Madrone, her only friend.

However, her life changed drastically one cold winter's day, when she awoke to find that her body had undergone a strange transformation.  Her once-black eyes had mysteriously turned a startling shade of green, and her belly, once covered with armored scales, had grown smooth.  Her wings attached to her back in a way that they certainly hadn't before, and her face had become nigh unrecognizable.  This was cause for great concern—if her body could suddenly change its shape without any warning, she may turn into anything!

Because of this, she retreated into a small cave in the forest, hidden from prying eyes.  Only the quiet Pianississimo knows of her whereabouts, and she is in no position to tell anyone.  The grief-stricken Madrone still wanders the forest, calling to her lost friend but never able to find her.
