Hellfire Wyverns are so named for their foul tempers and fiery visages. Their social structure places all females above all males, due to superior physical characteristics and violent dispositions. Forced subservience of the males causes them to become vicious, petty, antisocial, and passive-aggressive compared to the aggressive and social females. However, orphaned hatchlings raised by foster parents of another species can develop surprisingly even tempers and mellow dispositions, proving that their defining unpleasant nature is, in fact, a learned behavior.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Because Pema lotus was raised by guardian dragons she became sensitive, romantic, kind, shy, goofy, mellow and careful. Pema is nothing like the other Hellfire Wyvern females in the wild or in other clans that where raised by their own species. She even looks physically frail and sick. But the moment Pema smells one drop of blood within a range of 5 kilometers her personality and build drastically change. Like a transformation a werewolf has during the full moon, Pema turns into a bloodthirsty, hungry, bold, sadistic and fierce monster that is on the rampage looking for the source the smell of blood came from. Her seemingly weak and sick appearance undergo a rapid change that matches her terrible mind state. Her wings, claws and teeth seem to grow into huge proportions and her scales become pointier and intimidating. Pema is during this intense trans even dangerous for magi and black dragons. The only way for her to turn normal is when she can't smell the scent of blood anymore.
