Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

As she and her sister broke shell on their hatching day, Addertooth had been greeted by the sight of her violet sibling tussling with a snake. The serpent hadn't been expecting a newborn dragon (the "easy meal") to be so strong, and it was losing, but the young black dragon still wanted to escape her shell as quickly as possible so she might help her sister protect the nest. But before she made it, her sibling cracked a fang from the adder's mouth and it flew through the air. With a dull chinking noise, the tooth sunk through her shell and the black dragonet felt it pierce her soft scales. The venom crawled through her veins and Addertooth shrieked angrily, breaking the remaining shell encasing her body clean in two. She roared as loud as she could manage with such little lungs and plucked the fang from her hide. The poison quickly warped her mind, making her extremely ill-tempered and malicious, and stunted her growth as well. She deliberately wanders the land alone.
