Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Ophiuchus Bloodblade is Emmet Bloodblade's righthand dragon. He takes full charge of ordering and keeping the vampires in line. He is the last dragon anyone would want to be stuck with anywhere. He is a fierce and threatening general who is ready to claw out the eyes of the enemies. After hearing his metal-wrenching screech and seeing his dislodged and corrupted face he becomes quite the eyesore. When Ophiuchus was found, he was a sickly mortal dragon egg. Valerie Bloodblade could not stand seeing an egg like that die so she bit it. But she had made a horrible mistake. The dragon inside that egg was a mistake. When it was to finally hatch it had come out a lame and deformed dragon. Yet he was still trained as any normal vampire, and made into a horrid war machine.
