Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It gives off a glow that lights up the cave.

Look, it’s grown frills, and the glow around it has become even brighter.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Hanako should have been born a girl.  Even he agrees on that.  Surrounded by pink frills from an early age, he found himself taking a liking to sitting around looking pretty, letting others bring him meat rather than hunt himself, and tending to eggs.  Biology was determined to thwart his best wishes, though.  Now cursed to live as an eternal child and saddled with an effeminate name, Hanako tries to find some worth in his wrongly-gendered life, the meaning of his existence that has allowed him to escape death.
