Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It seems to enjoy sunbathing.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Forest is a very cautious and loving hatchling. He snuggles up with his keeper at night, liking the warmth she and the other dragons that prefer to stay near or in the glen offer. He loves to bask during the day and prefers to stay out of trouble, no matter how hard Moss tries to get him to bug Cerberus. He's pretty good at flying, even though he has smaller wings. Due to his kind and cautious nature, Merlin has been teaching him how to use weaker magic, and how to manipulate plants. This apprenticeship has earned him a loving place in a lot of the other dragon's hearts, even if they are bugged by his kin.
