Royal Blue dragons are a nocturnal breed who prefer to live high in the mountains near slow-moving water that reflects the night sky. Although quite capable of defending themselves, they are peaceful by nature and will avoid a fight whenever possible.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Though he is not among the eldest male dragons in Sylvain's family, Ririshi (often called Riri by the hatchlings) is respected by the family as a manners teacher for the young hatchlings of the brood. He keeps the more unruly hatchlings in check and ensures that the younger members of the family are able to look after one another. Occasionally when he visits the lakes near the mountain caves, some of the Sylvain family will accompany him, as the maturing hatchlings in particular enjoy his stately, calm presence.
