Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Xi is a former mage who used to live in the Wastleland of Umberclaw. She's known to everyone for bringing the curse of the Vampires to these lands, that have never had a single Vampire scale on their grounds.

Being among some of the dragons that founded Puppestopp, a kingdom for all the magicians to live in, Xi had been a candidate to The Four for many years. After the Whip came to devastate the kingdom of Puppestopp, however, she ran away into the small kingdom of Finitu for safety. After the Whip approached Finitu as well, the King asked her to help stop the armies, and she told him about the Vampires that she could bring from another land to stop the Whip. She warned the king about how they lived off biting others, but he agreed anyway. She brought the warriors of Vampire army from far away, and they succeeded in ending the Whip's reign. But they also killed many soldiers of Finitu, turning some of them into Vampires.
