Stone Dragons have a tough outer covering made of a stone-like material. They eat rocks, using the minerals they contain for nourishment and to keep up their stone outer shell. They rarely move, and are the heaviest of all types of dragons. Although they have wings, indicating flight ability, no one has ever seen a stone dragon flying.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Volvagia was a monster that plagued Hyrule, specifically Death Mountain, for many years. It flew through the air in a blaze of fire and dove unharmed through pools of molten lava. Volvagia was infamous among the Gorons for eating them alive, but was eventually defeated and slain by the ancient Hero of the Gorons.

Volvagia was first discovered in ancient times. It was known for its appetite for Gorons and it spread fear and consternation throughout the tribe. Although Volvagia devastated a good portion of the race, it was finally bested by a hero of the Gorons who defeated it with the assistance of the legendary hammer inside the Fire Temple. Although little about the hero was known, his legacy as well as Volvagias would continue for generations to come.
