Waterhorse Dragons received their name due to their horse-like physique and endearing behavior. They are capable of surviving out of water, and when on land their skin secretes a gelatinous goo to retain moisture. However, their large paddle feet are better suited for swimming, and waterhorse dragons tend to move very awkwardly when on land. Waterhorses are very friendly dragons and enjoy playing with humans.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Arara Illyia is a timid soul, and she is most comfortable in the shadow of her outgoing compatriots. She has a strange fondness for Brippan the troublemaker, which irks Atrophy to no end. Atrophy realizes that she will never be able to mate with Brippan however, so she allows their flirtations to take place. When not talking to Brippan, Arara is beside Mea, her best friend, or so it seems to the rest of the clan. In truth, when Mea and Arara disappear together it is because this is the only time they can exhibit their deep love for each other; they must stay a secret because TrollBoyTaran expects them both to mate, and especially because if Brippan and Atrophy found out, they might stop talking to her. This is ludicrous of course, because everyone in the cave is very accepting, but she is frightened none the less.
