Hellfire Wyverns are so named for their foul tempers and fiery visages. Their social structure places all females above all males, due to superior physical characteristics and violent dispositions. Forced subservience of the males causes them to become vicious, petty, antisocial, and passive-aggressive compared to the aggressive and social females. However, orphaned hatchlings raised by foster parents of another species can develop surprisingly even tempers and mellow dispositions, proving that their defining unpleasant nature is, in fact, a learned behavior.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

David is one of the many dragons rescued and nurtured by the wide ranging clan of humans founded by AnselaJonla. His egg was found on the slopes of a volcano and taken to a hatchery to be raised.

Once he matured, he found his lifemate, a Yellow-Crowned dragon, among the other AnselaJonla dragons. In the tradition of the AnselaJonla flock, both dragons took the same name, Cozike, to pass down to any of their offspring that remained within the flock.

Having been raised among many other breeds of dragon, David lacks the viciousness and tendency towards violence that is characteristic of male Hellfires. Despite his fearsome appearance, David is soft-hearted towards those smaller and weaker than him, and he's usually found tending to the hatchlings.

David is especially wary of hatchlings trying to wander away, ever since one was attacked by "knights". He'll gently pick up any he sees stray; luckily the Magi are proficient with fireproofing spells for those who need them.
