Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Aurum is a powerfully impressive male who prides intelligence, strength, and bloodlines. He lives within the boundaries of the Anu clan, but he shows no loyalties to either side of the divide. He couldn't fathom allowing himself to be under the rule of a Mint, yet he can see through the foolish stupidity of the Gold rebel leader, Eden. Neither appeals to his pride.

Aurum is at constant odds with Samus, a bounty hunter and high ranking member of the Anu council. She values loyalty above all else, hunting down traitors from the sky. He and the Tri-Horn have clashed numerous times. She does not believe that he holds no loyalties. His arrogance drives her mad.

He lost his loyalties when his previous clan abandoned him, sold him to the highest bidder. He does not belong with the Anu clan; he does not bear their name. His arrogance stems from the fact that he believes he's worth more than the Ember that took his place in his old clan. He believes, as his name suggests, that gold is power.
