It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Miss Grape Jelly loves helping Starr, a neotropical dragon, teaching the hatchlings how to fly. She helps them mostly with their takeoff positions and such, but sometimes she'll fly with them and show them how to do flips. Jelly also likes telling the hatchlings stories before they doze off, or fetching things for her mom, a 'nurse'. She always notices that Random Daydream During Class always watches and smiles at her from his favorite cloud, the one shaped like a chocolate milkshake. At times, she will smile back or fly up to talk to him, but she mostly tries to ignore it and not to blush, because she actually has a crush on him. Her best friend, Hyper Heather, always tries to get Random to ask her to go to the waterfall with him, but he blushes and asks why, though he likes Jelly and Heather knows it. Miss Grape Jelly hopes that he'll ask her to go visit the waterfall or the meadow, but she dares not to say that in front of Random Daydream During Class.
