Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Miley Guard was one of many siblings in the growing clan of black dragons in Wayside Haven. Her parents and oldest brothers had felt a calling to protect others and eventually started the police force in the empire. As part of the family, it was Miley's Duty to join the force when she came of age. However, Miley loved magic and did not have the traditional warrior's heart; she worried she would never fit in. She would sneak out at night with a broom and pointy hat, and fly around in the night sky. One day, she saw a large ghostly white dragon attacking a smaller dragon, so she flew to the rescue. Miley used her broom to beat the attacker back until backup arrived. Her encounter made her realize that she just might be warrior material after all.
