The egg faded away completely; in its place there’s a cute baby dragon. It doesn’t seem to have much substance, though.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Ikirrik goes trick-or-treating at Dragontown every year, mingling easily with the flocks of human children and dragon hatchlings doing the same thing. She knows she could phase through doors and get all the candy she wanted, but prefers not to be greedy. If she did help herself to the royal crimson's share of the candy, she would never be invited back, and Ikirrik does so love to show off her costume. Ikirrik can never decide what she wants to be, so she always dresses up as several things at once. She counts the year she was a ghost-wizard-ballerina-pirate-mummy-knight-fairy-fox as a personal triumph, even if the bandages did fall off before she made it to the second house.
