Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

DarkGoldenGoldfish is a smart little Goldfish Dragon hatchling. She's so intelligent it sets her appart from her fellow hatchlings. Instead, she spends most of her time with adult dragons particularly RoseQuartzStar a Pink Dragon Philosopher. They have long mental conversations about a variety of topics, but focus on 'A Dragon's Duty to their Fellow Dragon.' They have long, drawn out debates on a weekly basis. Every once in a while they get so worked up that they won't talk to one another for a month or two.
