Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Arco's Starry Sky is a lonely dragon. He is admired because of his unusual coloring and special abilities, but feared by many.

One day, when Arco was just entering the world as a hatchling, he came very close to dying of sickness. While he was unconscious, he had a vision of a dead dragon, and saw its spirit rise to the Otherworld. Since than, Arco has been able to see spirits.

Arco knows nothing of his past, and he is lonely. He wishes for a family, and dragons who would love him and not just fear him. His only friend is Carmen's Flame, who seems to understand him. They make understanding mates to each other hope to continue their family.
