Sunbeam Drakes are the diurnal counterparts to Moonglow Drakes, their eggs having been laid during the daylight hours. They are around the size of a small dog, and while docile, can be flighty and easily startled. Most can be found high in treetops enjoying the bright sunlight, tucking themselves away at the first sign of a storm or impending nightfall. Sunbeam Drakes enjoy flying in the light of the sun, and their treetop dances are beautiful, dazzling, and serene.

Though it may appear at first that dragons and drakes have much in common, the two are completely separate species. Drakes are smaller and less intelligent than their cousin species, though both dragons and drakes sit comfortably near the top of the food chain. They are always found bearing antlers and leathery wings. Drakes share many of the same habitats that dragons do, and typically hunt in packs.

Aleith of The Forests Afar was a dragon born in The Forests Afar. Lady Suroka found him and brought him back to her scroll, raising yet another obedient dragon. He does not say much but when he does, listen closely, because he is nevertheless very wise. He is also considered a handsome young dragon, although a little girlish looking, and bullied by it when he was of a younger age, even though he has many admirers. If he knows, he doesn't let on. Nobody knows much else about him, except that he has some tales of the forest which he had to come through to get to this scroll with Lady Suroka, and only the young innocent hatchlings know the rarely spoken tales of the Forests Afar, and there are rumors that he tells Layerone. But whomever he decides to tell, they are lucky ones indeed!
