Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has wings—but no hind legs—and it enjoys flying by the ocean.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Named after the constellation of the flying fish, Volans is sneaky and hideous like a snake. Innocently and harmlessly, it nears boats or shops of fishers. Once the people are not watching their catch for a second, it steals the best one of the fishes and runs away.

Although it is a petty thief, it is generous and kind towards other dragons. It is not rare that it gives its haul to another hungry hatchling, before it goes back to steal another fish.
