Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It sleeps a lot, but when it’s awake, it’s quite a handful.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

When two dragons brought a small pillow dragon hatchling back from an away mission, they had no idea how much trouble she would be. She was small, cute, and sweet enough to charm almost everyone in Starwander Weyr, despite being a bit of a pest, but the trouble with Trubble was her friends. She told her sister about the weyr, the sister told a half dozen of her closest friends, and soon there were hundreds of pillow hatchlings crowding the weyr, getting into endless mischief. When a dragon opened a door one day and was nearly suffocated by fluffy pillow dragons, everyone knew it was time to get rid of the unwelcome guests. Trubble, though, had some experience with being evicted, and was able to evade capture and hide herself so thoroughly that everyone thought she had left. Thus, even years later, Starwander still occasionally experiences trouble from Trubble as she and her friends once again flood the weyr.
