Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

As his name suggests, Gott-Konig is the alpha male or "king" of the dragons in his clan. He rules over the others with compassion, but he will not tolerate disobedience. Gott-Konig was almost killed in a coup d'etat that was staged by his mate Notte Ombra and the former clan leader Lunarous Frost. Notte Ombra had grown tired of the peaceful rule of Gott-Konig. The two dragons recruited a vast number of clan dragons and others that were promised clan status if they assisted. They stormed Gott-Konigs lair and overwhelmed him. Just before the final blow was struck, aid came to the clan leader in an unlikely form. Grimmjow Pantera, a rival for leadership, bust into the lair and protected the wounded dragon. Together with the remaining clan members the coup was crushed, the outsiders killed, and those who participated in the coup were banished. Gott-Konig stabilized the clan and appointed Grimmjow Pantera as his head general and second in command.
