Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Unlike the other hatchlings, this one hatched with wings.

And look! Its back legs have become a second set of wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Sparrowhawk is a very energetic prankster.  She loves to swoop down and pick up chipmunks.  She then deposits the chipmunks throughout the cave, leading all the other dragons to frantically avoid stepping on the scampering animals.  The chipmunks are really not that fond of flying for some strange reason, making them immediately dive for cover every time they see her.
