Brute Dragons are among the larger dragon breeds. They prefer to live in solitude or small groups, nesting in high, mountainous regions. The only time they openly seek the company of others is during the mating season, when males will fight for the attention of females. The thunderous crash of Brute Dragons butting horns against each other in competition for mates can be heard nearly a mile away.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Salemander is a very protective dragon, even if sometimes it does get on his nerves that he is always surrounded by small hatchlings and other dragons. Sometimes Salemander's temper can get the better of him, and he can lash out out of frustration or annoyance. He is the only dragon who does not let the hatchlings crawl all over him, and he is also the only dragon to sleep alone at night. Salemander may not look like it, but he can be very gentle with his trusted friends and even tries to avoid stepping on smaller creatures, but that is as far as his kindness will go. Mostly he keeps to himself and will only join the group to play around with the bigger dragons or listen to a story. One should not anger him unless they want to get smacked around by his tail and thrown as far away as he can manage.
