Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Sandersonii is a very quiet and gentle young dragon, refusing to grow up, he follows around a group that calls themselves The Lost Dragons. Too shy to ask for initiation into the group, he can usually found near the outskirts of the clans semi-permanent camp longingly watching their every move. Aldrovanda, a member of the clan and same breed as Sandersonii, has recently become aware of his existence and will sometimes invite him to come to chat with certain members of the group. At night he watches some of the other dragons as they keep guard and will often pass the time by making noises to arouse their attention, and then quickly going underground to avoid being detected. He sometimes wishes he hadn't chosen to stay young forever, as he loves watching hatchlings stumble around the nest.
