Neotropical Dragons are a breed that originate in rainforests. They are fun-loving and enjoy lounging on tree branches, eating whatever fruit they find. They are also often found sunning themselves on rocks, using their large wings to soak up the rays. In the summer, males compete for mates by showing off their striped wings and gliding in spirals down the tree trunks. It is said that the larger the wings, the more likely the male will attract a suitable mate.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Vopentyr is a kind, pleasant dragon well-known in the Mountains of Elgar as a member of the Triplets, a group of dragons that have been together since hatching. Vopentyr grew up under the care of Flight, a human girl who serves as one of two dragon guardians in the Mountains of Elgar. As a hatchling, Vopentyr had two littermates, the proud Royal Blue female named Virotha and the violent Olive dragon named Serpentine of the Gems. Unlike both of his siblings, who often get into arguments despite being very close, Vopentyr is seen by all in Elgar as a sweet and gentle dragon who can make friends with anyone. He is extremely close with his sister and brother, Virotha and Serpentine, and serves as the peacemaker in the Triplets. Vopentyr became a friend to Malachite of the Gems, another dragon raised by Flight. Despite Malachite's arrogant nature, Vopentyr fell in love with her and vice versa. They are now a mated pair and live in the Forest of Erdi in the Mountains of Elgar.
