Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has a large, shield-like object at the end of its tail that it uses for protection.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Ytene Newforest is is the protector of the hatchlings.  He chose to be frozen in time before he grew up so that he could set out upon his self set mission of guiding and protecting the hatchlings on their journey from childhood to adulthood.  Ytene is viewed as pure spirit, a guardian angel in a mortal form by the other dragons.  He is a well respected figure among the hatchlings, a dear friend and playmate to all.  Ytene is a counselor as well, giving out advice freely to any who wish to hear it.
