Sunbeam Drakes are the diurnal counterparts to Moonglow Drakes, their eggs having been laid during the daylight hours. They are around the size of a small dog, and while docile, can be flighty and easily startled. Most can be found high in treetops enjoying the bright sunlight, tucking themselves away at the first sign of a storm or impending nightfall. Sunbeam Drakes enjoy flying in the light of the sun, and their treetop dances are beautiful, dazzling, and serene.

Though it may appear at first that dragons and drakes have much in common, the two are completely separate species. Drakes are smaller and less intelligent than their cousin species, though both dragons and drakes sit comfortably near the top of the food chain. They are always found bearing antlers and leathery wings. Drakes share many of the same habitats that dragons do, and typically hunt in packs.

Golden is the only make drake and therefore he doesn't have to worry about any competition to his status. Golden views himself as the boss since he is more elegant and brightly colored then either Dusk or Fallow. But even with his views, Golden is a friendly dragon and he does his best to keep his friends safe. Golden is the one who usually scouts for food, finding cherry trees, which are his favorite, as well as grapes and berries. All three drakes that found ways to use little magic charms to keep their foods fresh and tasty while they are traveling. The three drakes are closed and can often be seen laying on a tree branch asleep, side by side.
