Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Unlike most Black dragons, Schlachtschwerter's preferred method of attack is neither magic nor his claws and teeth, but a massive dragon-sized enchanted sword forged by the clan's elemental dragons. The reason behind this is that Schlachtschwerter was born with minimal capability to use magic, and thus has to rely on physical attacks.

The sword itself is almost as long as Schlachtschwerter himself and extremely heavy, so it must be held by both of his forelimbs in order to be used effectively. This disadvantage is negated by the fact that the enchantment and the massive force combined can penetrate some of the strongest magical shields ever created, making it extremely lethal even against magic users.

When not on duty, Schlachtschwerter carefully maintains his prized sword and then proudly displays it in the clan's armory, where it is the biggest piece of weaponry.
