Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It likes to perch on the high branches of the taller trees and look longingly up at the sky.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This hatchling was forced out of its egg prematurely.

While most hatchlings choose when they would like to emerge from their eggs, Chi didn't get that option. She hatched when Joran, upset with something Angana said, slammed down onto the ground and caused a small earthquake. Perhaps because of her premature hatching, Chi does not seem to be maturing anymore. That doesn't seem to matter to her that much, as she spends much of her time playing with all the new hatchlings. Sometimes, however, a strange expression on her face can be seen when the other hatchlings become adults.
