When Water Dragons mature, they lose the ability to survive on land, entering the water permanently. They are adept swimmers and eat whatever fish are in the lake they live in. They tend to inhabit the same lake for their entire lives, although a few live in the ocean and swim all over the world.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

His name means "Great" in Japanese. Unlike most of the dragons in the colony, rather than having been raised by a mom and dad, he was raised by two dad's. Mizuru and Yoshii are his parent's, and since both were bachelors without a mate, they decided to team up to raise Dai. Yoshii and Mizuru were hunting together one day, when suddenly a great fish swam by. Mizuru quickly delivered a killing blow to the head. While they were eating, they noticed something peculiar fall out of the fish's gullet. It was bright blue and as glossy as the ocean's surface on a calm day. They were shocked when they discovered that it was an egg, but they decided to raise it anyway. When Dai hatched, they were so happy he was a boy, it made things easier for them. Dai became their little buddy, a third best friend as well as their son. Dai is smart, and kind, and one of the sweetest dragons in the colony. He is mated to Ameonna, Yoshii's daughter. They are so in love and always will be.
