Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. You find it odd that the hatchling doesn’t move at all during the day, but at night its colors change and it is full of energy.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Vabai is flat-out lazy, even at night. She sleeps for long periods of time, often weeks at a time, lounging inside the cave. When she does wake up, however, that's a night no one in the cave sleeps. Vabai goes off the wall when she's awake, kind of like a younger sibling that got a hold of caffeine and sugar at the same time. So the cave has marked the nights she normally awakens, so they can sleep the entire day before. Then when the sun starts to come up, she gets drowsy super quick and often retreats to the back of the cave, entering her sleep that spans weeks on end.
