Shimmer-scale Dragons are a very beautiful breed with small—but highly reflective—scales that shimmer and shine as the dragon moves through water. They don’t have fins or webbed feet, but their long, eel-like bodies allow them to swim quite fast. They were once rumored to carry large pearls in their claws—causing many to seek them out in search of this fabulous treasure. In reality, the “pearl” is of greater value to the dragon, for the fabled treasure is actually an egg carried by a migrating female.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

As one of the two so-called daughters of music, referring the the shimerscale Rhaspody, that make their homes among the clan, Princess Yokinao is well liked and respected. Unlike her cousin, Ganaku, Yokinao cannot play any musical instrument, nor can she sing so much as a single note... though this does not prevent her from helping her cousin with organizing events. She still adores to hear music and see it performed, however, and loves to hear the clan caves filled with the sound of music more than anything else in the world. Her musical nature still shows through, though, in the graceful, almost dance-like, way of moving she has. Rumor says that she actually CAN dance and that, despite the fact that her court activities leave her with limited time to practice, she takes lessons from the clan's Ribbon Dancers. Whether this is true or not, it is a fact that if it is she is careful to never be caught at it. Unlike her cousin, she is shy and has no wish to take the stage to perform.
