Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. This hatchling seems to be filled with a fell, inner flame.

And look! Its wings have grown, and it’s become rather vicious and wary of others of its kind.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Redfire Redblade is probably the only hatchling in his group that can actually talk and play and hang out with his friend Bluefire Bluesteel. Bluefire is fiercer than Redfire and other hatchlings tend to stay away from her snappish power. She was frozen as an unfair punishment by a Magi who had no choice but to obey the requests of some very "squealish" hatchlings who tattled on every little mistake made by older hatchlings in hope of being allowed some more rights and the occasional award. As the result, Redfire's friend became quite vicious and even dared to attack the dragons once they had grown and learned better. The dragons were not as sorry as one would've thought for squealing on somebody and then receiving punishment from the one they squealed on the most. Redfire was frozen by his choice although the same dragons came to nab him a bit as well. But they were severely punished when the leader of leaders found out that a hatchling had been unfairly frozen and cast those dragons from the clan.
