Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It enjoys swimming in a nearby pond.

And look! Its fins and tail have gotten bigger, and you’ve moved it to a larger body of water to swim in. It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Gutulla lives in a caldera lake in the far north. How he came to be in the caldera is a bit of a mystery, as it is fed only by the rain, and no rivers flow to or from the lake. He himself doesn't know how he got there, having been deposited in the caldera as an egg. Luckily for him, the caldera is pristine, covered in pine forest and containing a lake with water as clear as the air. There aren't many fish in the lake for the same reason that Gutulla is the only water dragon in the lake, so he's had to subsist largely on vegetation and aquatic insects. This isn't much of a bother to him, since he's lived like such for all of this life. Similarly, he is not lonely, as he's never known what it's like to be with dragons of his own kind. He enjoys his quiet solitude in the isolated caledra, munching away at the greenery and watching birds as they fly overhead to places unknown.
