And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Every year, eight little Halloween hatchlings go trick-or-treating at various human towns and villages. Gibadar should be less popular than he is, given what caligenes are capable of, but he has always made it clear that he keeps his powers to himself. Halloween is a time for candy and harmless tricks, he believes, not death magic. He tries to thwart Spedkezek when he can, as Gibadar doesn't think Halloween is a time for mind-control either. Gibadar always goes the extra few dragonlengths with his costume. The year he dressed up as a pirate, he didn't stop with an eye patch and pirate's hat, but also tracked down doubloons, a peg leg, and a genuine live parrot. Nobody ever did figure out where the parrot came from or where it ended up once Halloween was over.
